History
The Ancient Chiss (30,000 BCGT to Circa 7 CGT)
25,000 Years before the Founding of the Chiss Ascendancy, Csilla was a vibrant and temperate. The Chiss Race established the Chiss Houses and the Chiss Sages. The Chiss Sages were force users who offered a neutral place for houses to negotiate and were hosts of an annual Festival of Unity. While the records are unclear, it was at one Festival of Unity that the Chiss Ascendancy was founded circa 5000 BCGT.
Shortly before(or after, as accounts vary), an ecological catastrophe truck that plunged Csilla into an Ice Age that it remains in to this day. While the causes are varied as alien attack, terraforming experiment gone wrong or mere climate change, the impact was immediately felt throughout Chiss Society and became the impetus that spurred colonization and establishment of a unified military, the CEDF and a common repository of knowledge, the Chiss Expeditionary Library.
However, a Civil Dispute, a Vagaari Invasion and other crises would cause the Chiss Ascendancy to collapse into a mere planetary government by Year 7. At this time, the existence of Csilla and the Chiss Race was revealed to the wider galaxy.
The 1st Chiss Ascendancy (8 CGT)
The first effort to restore the Chiss Ascendancy was not even led by a Chiss at all. Isoldor Storm a Hapan Sith who had once been an apprentice of the Galactic Empire merged his 12 Colonies Government with the Chiss Government that remained after the Chiss Civil Dispute and Five Year had devastated the Ascendancy and brought it to near collapse. Shortly before this, Csilla was opened up the wider galaxy and Chiss began to publicly appear in Lesser Space in Year 7. In Year 7, the Chiss Society was founded as a community among the Chiss Diaspora, but this organization was not connected to the 1st Chiss Ascendancy in anyway and some members even opposed them philosophically.
On Day 233 of Year, only a few weeks after declaring the founding of a new Chiss Ascendancy, Isoldor Storm was dead. The first Non-Chiss leader, who used the title Chancellor, was killed on his flagship by a bounty hunter. The Chiss Ascendancy reorganized into the Pirate Government Black Nebula and Csilla came under their direct control.
The 2nd Chiss Ascendancy (Year 9 CGT)
The Chiss who had supported organized a new Chiss Ascendancy allied with Black Nebula, registering it as a religion to maintain the support of the Chiss People. While support among the Csilla populace was mixed, the Chiss Society regarded the 2nd Ascendancy as Black Nebula puppets.
The New Republic attacked and the Battle of Csilla began, with many Chiss partisans supporting the New Republic against Black Nebula, including Chiss agents willing sharing informing with Republican forces. The result would be stalemate that would oartition Csilla for three years between the New Republic and Black Nebula(later to reorganize as The Old Republic).
This Ascendancy would eventually dissolve for reasons unknown but there were rumors that their takedown may have been engineered by an agent of the Eidola Pirates.
Their leader was Inrokini`luci Sabile.
The 3rd Chiss Ascendancy (Year 9 CGT)
Using the opening afforded by the fall of the 2nd Chiss Ascendancy, the Chiss Society organized and founded a 3rd Chiss Ascendancy. The two sentients most instrumental in its founding would be Carn`ilo Sabosen(Nilos), a descendant of House Sabosen and Flar Gar, a Chiss military veteran who had made a name for himself serving in multiple capacities across the galaxy.
Since Nilos was the only one willing to leave his current employer to found and lead the faction, the Chiss Society back Nilos as leader of this new Ascendancy. Nilos also restored not only House Sabosen but Chiss institutions like the CEDF, Council of Families and other Chiss Houses. Another notable accomplishment in bringing in House Nakesh back into the broader Chiss Community. House Nakesh had been founded circa year 7 but had been independent of the Chiss Society and all previous iterations of the Chiss Ascendancy to this point, they were the founders of Nakesh Alliance Extractions and were now coming home.
This Chiss Ascendancy would fall not due to external threat but internal revolt. Sye Montaris, General Minister of the Chiss Ascendancy, placing him as effective third in command of the Chiss Ascendancy had information that Flar was leaking classified information to his primary employer, Rogue Squadron, a member government of the Galactic Alliance, which included New Republic at the time. Nilos had opposed the perpetual imprisonment of Mitth`oro Nuroudo a member of House Nuroudo who had become imperial moff and had been captured by the New Republic in the earliest stages of the Battle of Csilla.
Records of the time also indicate that Nilos felt frustrated that the Chiss Ascendancy had not been included in development of Csilla and that they may be shut of any role in the future of their homeworld. With the strategic assessment beign that the New Republic would eventually win the conflict, Nilos had presented a plan to start insurrection on Csilla to liberate should the New Republic turn down a independence proposal that he was also planning to make.
While it was true that Flar was sharing this information with Rogue Squadron high command, Flar decided he needed to be a brake on Nilos and this radical agenda, as it risked a war the Chiss Ascendancy could not afford. General Minister Montaris presented this to Nilos who denied the potential, trusting Flar as a friend and ally. Montaris then attempted to organize the CEDF into open revolt, even broadcasting on the GNS.
However Nilos refused to support him and declared the General Minister in revolt. But it was over shortly after it began as almost no officers and few enlisted warriors backed his efforts. Nilos would declare the 3rd Chiss Ascendancy dissolved after the event and both Nilos and Flar took time to rest and reorganize.
The 4th Chiss Ascendancy (Year 11 Day 211 CGT to Year 13 Day 164)
Flar and Nilos returned after Sye’s Revolt and decided to give another shot to restoring the Chiss Ascendancy. The result the mining company Chiss Material Extractions, with Flar and Nilos comprising its Board of Directors.
In Year 12, The New Republic and The Old Republic had finally negotiated an end to the Csilla partition with the Csilla system fully under Republican control. Flar and Nilos disagreed on how to approach the New Republic so that Chiss Ascendancy would have a role in Chiss Ascendancy’s future. Nilos wanted to make a firm bid for independence, counting on the New Republic’s rhetoric while Flar wanted to wait until they, like The Old Republic, actually had something to offer in exchange.
That same year CME Board of Directors was expanded by adding two non-chiss members, notably Simon Eusnomis, recently retired from service in the Falleen Federation and long time friend of Flar.
That same year, the Galactic Alliance organized a coordinated attack against The Old Republic, spearheaded by the Falleen Federation. Then a Chiss in the service of the Old Republic extracted 4 Billion credits from The Old Republic treasury. The timing was so precise that for the years that followed, the Old Republic(and their successors in The Commonality and later restored eXiles) assumed that the Chiss was a Federation agent.
In reality, Alani had been an agent of the Chiss the time of Black Nebula, with chiss historians suspecting his turn to be before or suring the Battle of Csilla. The credits Alani stole were primarily used to inject new capital into CME and allow it to begin colonization of the Kriz Sector. To facilitate the reorganization, the Board voted to transfer ownership of CME from Nilos to Flar.
Weeks later, in response to concerns that Nilos was still planning an insurrection on Csilla, the CME Board issued a statement that they were a separate entity legally from the Chiss Ascendancy, which they recognized as being led by Nilos. Nilos was permitted to keep a minority stake in CME and remain in the position of Second in Command.
Nilos would then plot the assassination of Flar, but be discovered and executed on Day 109. The CME Board would then declare that Nilos’s actions had forced them to take drastic action and went beyond reversing their earlier policy by declaring themselves the newest iteration of the Chiss Ascendancy.
The supporters of Nilos organized the Chis Ascendancy-in-Exile as a resistance and tensions between the two came close to conflict but never beyond a civil dispute. This was finally ended when the High Command of the Chiss Ascendancy elected to rename to the Empire of the Hand. They claimed that Nilos has poisoned public perception to such a degree that the name Chiss Ascendancy was no longer viable.
The 5th Chiss Ascendancy (Year 13 Day 164 CGT to Year 14 Day 129)
The 5th Chiss Ascendancy is noted for having the best possible start and worst possible ending for an organization.
The leader of the Chiss Ascendancy in Exile, Drak`ora Sabosen(Koras), now found himself as leader of the fifth effort to restore the Chiss Ascendancy. He first called a constitutional convention to draft a new Chiss Constitution out of the Chiss Senate the Chiss Ascendancy in Exile had sponsored during the time of the 4th Chiss Ascendancy.
His leadership of the Chiss Ascendancy was divided by a growing divide between himself and Aristocra od Hosue Royan. Aristocra Vito Royan and his House had supported the CaiE but a divide occurred when the faction Hosue Royan founded lost its second in command, Rachel Keiko-sho to the new Chiss Ascendancy. The dispute blossomed until Nilos and Vito plotted to assassinate each other until they were both assasinated in a triple cross by the Dark Star Hellions crime syndicate.
Leadership fell to Rachel Keiko-sho was had been a supporter of both Nilos and Koras and was a leader of what had been known as the traditionalists. Rachel attempted many projects including a proposed effort turn the Chiss Ascendancy socialist.
Rachel abdicated the Aristocracy despite pleas from House Nakesh to stay and House Nakesh rejecting a counteroffer that their Arisricra be the new leader. House Nakesh with from influencing Chiss policy, leaving only House Yar to fill the power vacuum.
The 6th Chiss Ascendancy (Year 14 Day 164 CGT to Year 21 Day 263)
Aristocra Yar, Reius Rothschild, became leader of the Chiss Ascendancy and had to work to recover lost assets, create stability and grow the Chiss Ascendancy.
There were notable accomplishments including bring House Togl into the Chiss Ascendancy, building alliances and negotiating a role in Csilla’s future. However this came at the cost of Reius engaging in an unprecedented accumulation of power under the title of Grand Aristocra, including over citizen communication.
In Year 20, the Chief of State of the New Republic was revealed to be an Imperial agent and Csilla was transferred to Imperial control. The Empire and Chiss Ascendancy eventually came to an agreement in which the Empire was given a seat in the Council of Families and a voice in electing future Grand Aristocra.
The following year, Reius chafed under Imperial Stewardship and planned to orchestrate a revolt under a new name guided not by the Chiss Houses but devoted to him personally. What became known as the Valkyrian Revolt kicked off as the Houses, CEDF and the broader Chiss Citizenry rejected Reius, refusing to follow the self-declared Emperor Reius.
The 6th Chiss Ascendancy ended as the 1st Ascendancy began as the Imperial Advisor that represented the Empire on the Council of Families was also a Sith.
The 7th Chiss Ascendancy (Year 21 Day 263 CGT to Present)
The Council of Families then met to elect a new Grand Aristocra, ultimately choosing the Aristocra of a minor Chiss House, Drath`re Skal (Thresk).
Now with the declared title of Grand Sydic, Thresk set about drafting new legal code for the Chiss Ascendancy and reviving the ancient institution of the Syndicure of the High Command of the Chis Ascemdancy. Also House leaders would now be elected by their members annually instead of serving for life. Further reforms curbed the power of the Chiss Houses that had become excessive during the 6th Chiss Ascendancy and kept the
Chiss Houses from repeating the mistakes of past keeping them from subverting Chiss policy in favor of their personal ambitions.
On Year 22 Day 13, Thresk announced his retirement due to complications from Cybernetic Surgery. He nominated Remus Soran who had been the Second in Command of the 7th Chiss Ascendancy, as his successor. Remus then pledged to continue building on the progress made under Thresk to achieve the vision of a strong and independent Chiss government.
